65 Years in the Making

Sixty-five years in, we don't simply supply surfaces.
Since 1961, BetterTiles has worked alongside architects, designers and builders who understand that great spaces aren't measured by opening day alone. They're measured by how they perform years later. Decades later.
Our story began the way many Australian businesses do.
Founded by Leonardo Gasparre as L Gasparre & Company, the office was no more than a car. Within a few short years, that vision had grown into Better Tiling Pty Ltd, earning a reputation for quality, service and specialist knowledge at a time when Australia's architectural landscape was rapidly evolving.
Importing materials from Europe and Asia long before global sourcing became commonplace. Designing our own tile collections to meet the evolving needs of architects and builders. Developing relationships with manufacturers whose craftsmanship matched our own expectations.
By the late 1960s and throughout the decades that followed, BetterTiles became trusted on some of Australia's most significant commercial projects. From the QANTAS Building and MLC Centre to the restoration of Sydney's Queen Victoria Building, our work became woven into the fabric of cities, workplaces and public spaces that continue to be used every day.
But what has mattered most isn't the scale of the projects.
It's the trust behind them.
Because specifying materials has never been just about selecting a beautiful surface. It's about balancing aesthetics with performance. Understanding lead times before they become delays. Considering maintenance before the building is occupied. Knowing how a material will age, how it will be installed and how it will live within the architecture for decades to come.
Those are the conversations we've been having for sixty-five years.
Today, our role hasn't changed.
We continue to work closely with architects, interior designers, builders and homeowners, providing considered advice from concept through to completion. We understand the pressures of specification because we've experienced every shift in the industry, from handmade mosaics and terrazzo floors to large-format porcelain, natural stone and our own FusionStone collection.
As you look back through the kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces of the 1960s, you'll notice something familiar - honest materials, confident geometry, surfaces that were never designed to follow trends, only to outlast them.
Sixty-five years in, we don't simply supply surfaces.
We help create places that stand the test of time.
Here's to the next chapter.
